Tractors Revenge

I'm not sure why I enjoy this photo.
It's just looks... complete, somehow. All the elements (colors, shapes and the figures) appear in balance and even though the moment itself is not strong enough, something in this frame always catches my attention.
Not one of my 'best' works, but I kinda like it.

Such mundane moments always reminds me the works of William Eggleston. It took me a while to warm up to his style, but when I did, his way of seeing life around him, changed my perspective as well. Try it ;)

This week's favorite blog is actually two blogs and both are connected to the theme of the post (aka 'Mundane moments').
The first one is an excellent photoblog by David Lindley - "low revolution". David uses mostly film/lomo and he does that masterfully.
And the other is i.n.galbraith by @ingalbraith.
When I visit these photoblogs, I'm always amazed at how blind I'm during my daily routines and I just keep wondering why when I try to take such frames, they don't look as good.

If you got such mundane fragment, link them in the comments!

One last thing. I don't think I asked this yet, but.... Can you please vote for me? :)

P.S
If you were curious about the title - The red poster says Tractor's Revenge (Hebrew) - name of an Israeli music band.

I like this image, too. I also like the fact that you are critical of your images and only want to show your best work. Keep searching for the moments.

  2. pando says:

Cool scene and the interplay of colors: red and blue accents on the gray background. I like this photo very much.

  3. Fritsch says:

William Eggleston rules simply because just as you wrote, he teaches us to see.

A brilliant picture because of your always amazing colours & the "arrangement" of people & writings. Great! And by the way: What a great title for this beauty.

All the best & safe travels,
    Fritsch.

Everything falls into place and has sufficient compositional strength to stand on its own. It sure does catch the eye gently forcing the search for detail and meaning. I like it very much...

Beautiful post. I think the first thing that popped out for me was the powerful red against the natural color of the backdrop. It is amazing how things come to life behind a lens. Thank for sharing you introducing two of your favorites.

    Peace.

I agree with you Ilan in that this image is complete, and there is just something about it that is pleasing to the eye. I really like the red in the shot and all the elements coming together so well.

Bravo to you on another winner :)

  17. Harry says:

I like it too. I find harmony in the matching red & white outfits with the red picked up in the sign, and the bare arms also picked up in the sign. It all just fits together.

  32. Ivar says:

Nice situation image with great colors.

  33. liang says:

i like this shot for all the reasons you stated above. the two people are matching, the dog is minding its own business, they're discussing something obviously, looking at ads, etc. and it's just another candid scenery. =]

  34. rhys says:

Well, I'm a true lover of mundane moments, and this is a gem. Its also got a 'decisive moment' feel to it, a la Cartier Bresson. Part of me wants to know what the graffiti says, but I think I prefer not knowing- it adds to the mystery- what are they looking at/for, what are they saying, where did they go next and what did they do?

  35. Marcie says:

Wonderful street scene. Love the balance of color...the 'reds' that seem to work so well.

  36. Terry H. says:

Very interesting image with lots to look at. I like it too!

  37. John Batdorff says:

    Great photo....

  38. Jon Rieley-Goddard (jonriego) says:

    hi
there is nothing mundane about the diagonal/triangular balance of the three splashes of red!

  39. Neil Alexander says:

It has a slightly awkward feel for me, this image. I think it's the blue sign in the top right that for some reason adds a slightly off balance feel to the image. I love the co-ordinated outfits and the interaction between the subjects though. And the panting pooch and bicycle finish it off nicely.
    Great work Ilan

  40. rian says:

i just appreciate how laidback they look.. very nice shot.. :)

  41. Doum says:

Sure, for my eyes it's difficult to give an interpretation to all the sign in place. I think it was better without peoples and dog. Interesting the link attached to the text. Anyway I like this wall...

  42. LB says:

Amazing colors, details and a great compostion. Excellent!

  43. Ashish Sidapara says:

Love the reds, beautiful street shot.

  44. Ståle says:

Actually, Ilan, I agree with you. This shot has a good balance and is full of (daily) life. The strong red colours catch the eye and all the other details keep me looking, searching, enjoying.

  45. Nicolas Beaumont says:

Nice to see that everywhere in the world people are doing stuff for their ideas.

  46. navin harish says:

I see what you mean. It is a very nice shot

  47. Darietto says:

Ilan, i must say that sometimes i don't understand totally your works; maybe because the message is beyond the picture we see. But i'm learning to see... i'm pushing myself everyday a little bit further on. At first sight i cound't see anything really interesting in this picture. Then i've read your words and i saw it again! Only then i saw the perfect correlation between objects, people and space. It's a simple scene but it's fraught of life power. I love your advices and your way to talk about photography. Have a nice week! (sorry for my bad english)

  48. Alex says:

La verdad que hay grandes fotografos en nuestro alrededor, cada uno con su estilo y su forma de ver el mundo.
    Saludos.

  49. Amit Basu says:

Looks good. not sure I know what it conveys, though.

  50. nathan says:

Great shot, I like how their colors mirror each other.

  51. gavin hart says:

Mundane street shot or not, there are actually plenty of elements to keep the eye and mind entertained. I like the collection of colors dispersed against the less vibrant wall and pavement. I think that hound thinks it's mundane. Lol. Love that dog.

  52. elaine says:

thanks again for sharing your favorite blogs :) i agree with you on this shot: so much to see ! this really is PHOTOGRAPHY: a stolen instant in lights!

  53. LightningPaul says:

Indeed, pretty well balanced. Except for that little orange thing in the right bottom corner :-)

  54. flo g says:

je comprends que W.Eggleston change ta façon de voir.. ;) je pense que c'est un des meilleurs professeurs ! la présence du chien anime ta photo.. il s'ennuie en attendant ses maîtres !!

I like it too. It looks fixed in time but something is going on - he is leaning and pointing, she is attending, the dog is otherwise engaged -

And there is a lot of red - their clothes, the edge of the sidewalk, the poster - to tie it together.

    So says the critic ;-)
